July 10, 2012 | WMFE - Job growth declined nationwide last month according to the latest numbers from the federal government released on Friday. The pace of job growth slowed over the last three months to an average of about 80 thousand a month compared with more than 225 thousand in each of the first three months of the year.

July 3, 2012 | WMFE - Late last week, the US Supreme Court upheld the federal government's comprehensive new health care law, known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Governor Rick Scott says he will continue to fight against the new law and says Florida will not participate in optional portions of the law including the expansion of Medicaid.

Economist Hank Fishkind says there is a strong economic incentive for the FCAT, and that despite it's ups and downs it makes economic sense for Florida.

May 22, 2012 | WMFE - The latest figures from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity show Florida's unemployment rate is continuing to decline. The overall, statewide rate for April dropped to 8.7% down from a rate of 9% in March. That statewide figure is the lowest unemployment rate since January 2009 and the state's job growth has been positive for 21 consecutive months.

May 01, 2012 | WMFE - The controversy over funding for the Orlando and Orange County venues is in the news again this week. In 2007, the county and city agreed to fund three venues: a new basketball arena, a new performing arts center and renovations to the Citrus Bowl. The funding for all three projects was to come from the Tourist Development Tax. That revenue is generated by the county's tourist and lodging businesses.
